  1. I've been replaying #MetroidPrime the last few weeks now that I'm an adult with critical thinking skills. Overall really enjoyed it. Definitely a very direct interpretation of the #Metroid formula to 3D.

Generally navigation and the hint system mostly worked fine, though I did need a walkthrough for a couple bits (fuck those invisible floating platforms).

Combat is the biggest complaint, single stick FPS just sucks. Different beam and super missiles mostly work, but do get tiring. It's hard to know which beam is actually the best for a given enemy except for the pirates who *require* a specific beam.

There's also waaaay too much platforming for a single-stick FPS game. Too easy to fall and so much backtracking that certain rooms are infuriatingly memorable.

I didn't actually beat it though. The end of the game was just too frustrating. Meta Ridley took way too long because his final stage repeats a dash attack where he perfectly covers his mouth (the critical weak point) making it unreasonably difficult to stun.

Eventually I discovered I was supposed to be using the plasma beam, but again, the game doesn't really communicate which weapon you're supposed to use outside the colored enemies.

The room after that is the worst in the game. Fission metroids suck, as they split into two with different resistances, so it takes 5-7 charge shots each. Nuanced platforming means you can't dodge without falling, so the only option is to just run past them.

Metroid Prime itself is reasonably designed (again abusing the colored enemy mechanic), but at 140 missiles I clearly don't have enough and run out with 2/3 of his health remaining. The plasma beam misses 80% of it's shots, and the white form chain freezes you.

I eventually just gave up as it's not worth the effort. I can't recall any other game I liked this much which was so thoroughly ruined by it's ending. I think I'm good on Metroid games for a little while.
