      To break it down a bit: "I'm repeating what you said back to you" means I'm not changing the content of your message or giving my own take. "in my own words" forces me to internalize the meaning of what you said, not just repeat it back verbatim.

        "to your satisfaction" gives you the opportunity to correct and clarify where I'm misunderstanding. It also means you are the final arbiter of your statement, I don't decide when I understand, you do.

          I find this really valuable for summarizing meetings and defining action items to get everyone on the same page. I hadn't really thought about it in a more personal context, but I've done it by accident a few times. Being more deliberate could help understand anyone better.
