Had an interesting conversation with @stephenfluin today. What is the difference between an "opt-out" and a blocklist (blacklist)?

An "opt-out" is when a user chooses not to use a particular feature. A blocklist is a set of items for which a feature is disabled. The former is distributed and unrestricted while the later is centralized and requires approval from the central authority.

The terminology provides a subtle distinction in meaning which I had never really considered before. Language is a lot more nuanced than precise than I often realize.
